We have 40 year's experience of race car preparation and building. Our racing car preparation expertise goes back to pre Automech days, to 1968 in fact when partner Dave Fairclough started his career with Chevron Race Cars of Bolton and where he spent many years building, preparing and maintaining Chevron race cars of all types from Formula 5000 to special GTs and Formula 3 for Brian Redman, John Watson, Peter Gethin, John Lepp, Jim Crawford and John Bridges amongst others.
In 1978 Dave also turned his preparation skills to saloon car racing with great success, preparing cars for Alan Minshaw, F1 driver David Purley and Dave "Jess" Yates who won the Uniroyal Production Saloon Car Championship in a Fairclough prepared car.
In 1981 Dave and Gary Marshall established Automech to cater for the ever increasing demands for there skills, Gary being a very accomplished scramble bike competitor and rally driver and recently, a successful one make saloon car driver.
Over the years Automech has overseen the preparation of many types of race car for various one make championships including Ford Audio Fiesta XR2i, Mazda MX5 with James Kaye, Fiesta Si, TVR Tuscan, Renault Clio Cup, Classic Saloon car, North West Formula Ford, 750MC Stock Hatch, Brisca F2 Stock Cars etc, and in 1995 Richard Kaye was placed third in the BTCC Privateers Championship and achieved the award for the most reliable car in the championship in his ex works Ford Mondeo prepared by Automech.
Since 1991 we have been involved with the Ford XR Championship in which we have had many outright and Championship victories, and over the past 4 years we have been the Championship Coordinators to the series.
