We are approved by the Government appointed Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA), and our MOT department can carry out class IV MOT's on your car or van up to 3000kg using qualified testers who are also trained and certified by VOSA.

Below are some of the different checks that are carried out while we MOT your vehicle:

Lights - Condition, missing, operation, obscured, switches, security and correct colour of the following lights, Side, Head, Number plate, Brake, Fog, Indicators, and Hazard. Headlamps are also checked for correct aim and pattern.

Horn – Must be the correct sound/loudness, not two tone or more, the horn switch must be accessible to the driver.

Steering and Suspension – Condition, Security and operation of ball joints, track rod ends, steering rack, steering box, steering column, leaf springs, coil springs, torsion bars, Fluid/Gas/Air Suspension, suspension arms and linkages, subframes, wheel bearings, shock absorbers, anti-roll bars, driveshaft’s and CV joints.

Vehicle identification number (VIN or Chassis number) must be permanently displayed and readable on all vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980

Brakes – Performance, Condition, and Operation of the following items, Brake pads/shoes, Brake discs, Hoses, Pipes, Servo, Cylinders, ABS operation, Valves, Pumps, Cables, and Handbrake. We also conduct a brake performance check.

Tyres and Road wheels – Security, Condition, which includes Tread depth, Tyre size and type, Tyre Valve, Wheel Nuts/Bolts/Studs, the Spare Tyre is not tested.

Seat Belts - All seat belts fitted are checked for type, Operation, Condition, and Security. All compulsory seat belts must fitted and in working order

Body and Structure – Must be free from excessive corrosion or damage in prescribed areas near Suspension, Seat belt, Brake, Seat, Tow bar, and Sub frame mounting etc. Bodywork should be free from any sharp edges likely to cause injury.

Seats – Drivers and front passenger seats are checked for security. Front and rear seat backrests must be capable of being secured in the upright position.

Doors - Front doors should open from both the inside and outside of the vehicle and Latch securely in closed position. Rear doors may only need to be opened to test certain items.

Registration Plates - Security Condition, Legibility and have the correct format of letters, numbers and Spacing.

Exhaust System – The system should be free from any major leaks, it must also be complete, and all the mountings should also be complete and in good condition.

Fuel system – We check the fuel tank and pipes for security and leaks, the fuel cap must fasten and seal correctly.

Exhaust emissions – We test that the vehicle meets the requirement for exhaust emissions, Petrol and Diesel, These limits vary depending on the age and type of fuel the vehicle is using.

Mirrors – Obligatory Mirrors are checked for Presence, Security, Condition and usability.

Wipers – Checks are done to make sure they clear the screen effectively and that they park in a position that doe’s not obscure the drivers view, the wiper switch is also checked for security and operation

Washers –They must provide enough liquid to clear the screen together with the wipers

Windscreen – We check for chips, scratches, stickers etc that obscure the drivers view within the swept area’s of the screen.

Bonnet – We check that the bonnet can be safely secured in the closed position, and that the retaining device is not deteriorated or ineffective in its operation.

Tow Bar – We check that the tow bar has been fitted correctly, we also check foe security, Corrosion, Fractures, and Damage
